Reflecting on the fact that it is over a decade since Melbourne was judged the most livable city in the world in the Mercer's Annual Expat Livability Study. Since then it has fallen markedly to 17th. Other studies have come along, each proclaiming to be the best, but Mercer's is the real deal. Meanwhile, throughout the country the infrastructure is crumbling and levels of service are declining. Prices, as you'd expect, continue to rise. In 2014 it was rated as the 5th most expensive city in the world.
